 1. Regular Maintenance

  • Clean/Replace Air Filters: Dirty filters can block airflow and reduce efficiency. Check filters every month during peak seasons and clean or replace them as needed.
  • Inspect Coils: Evaporator and condenser coils can collect dirt, reducing their ability to absorb and release heat. Clean them annually.

2. Proper Thermostat Settings

  • Set Thermostat to an Optimal Temperature: Keep the thermostat at a moderate temperature (around 24°C-26°C or 75°F-78°F) to avoid overworking the unit.
  • Use a Programmable Thermostat: Schedule the AC to turn off when not needed, or raise the temperature when you’re away to prevent unnecessary cooling.

3. Ensure Proper Airflow

  • Keep Vents Open and Unblocked: Ensure that the air vents are not obstructed by furniture, curtains, or other objects. Proper airflow reduces strain on the AC.
  • Use Ceiling Fans: Running fans can help circulate cool air, allowing you to set the thermostat a bit higher.

4. Seal Leaks and Insulate

  • Seal Doors and Windows: Check for and fix any gaps around doors and windows that can allow warm air to enter, which forces the AC to work harder.
  • Insulate Ducts: Leaky ducts can waste a lot of energy. Insulating and sealing them can improve efficiency and keep your home cooler.

5. Provide Shade for the AC Unit

  • Keep the Condenser Cool: Place your outdoor condenser unit in a shaded area to reduce heat absorption from the sun. You can plant trees or install a shade, but make sure there’s enough clearance for proper airflow.
  • Clear Debris Around the Unit: Keep plants, leaves, and debris away from the outdoor unit to maintain airflow and ensure efficient operation.

Following these tips can extend the lifespan of your air conditioner and keep it running efficiently for a long time.
